The EU4Health NFP Network has organised a session at the European Health Forum Gastein 2023. The workshop “(EU4)Health in all programmes – Harnessing synergies for a resilient future” took place Thursday, September 28, from 8:45 to 9:45 am.
EU4Health – the current 4th iteration of the European health programme – has seen an increase in scope and budget in the wake of the COVID-19 crisis and has set its sights not only on spearheading recovery from the pandemic, but also on providing tools for EU Member States and associated countries to adapt to the multi-faceted crises that have faced European people and health systems since. At the same time, EU4Health cannot function in isolation, and is situated within a complex web of synergistic funds, programmes, and policies, shaped by the European Commission together with the Member States, and implemented through the management of related budgets, calls, and projects by the EU Executive Agencies. Understanding and harnessing these synergies – across policy agendas, across programming areas, and across financial envelopes – is a task of critical importance for health actors to preserve the currentmomentum for action and catalyse sustainable intersectoral solutions.
In an interactive conversation with participants, this hour-long session explored the role of EU4Health and its complementary programmes in working towards the realisation of a European Health Union, highlighting areas ripe for synergistic action on health and well-being, and discussing challenges and barriers encountered along the way.
