The European Union, through the EU4Health programme, launched on 8 March the Joint Action JARDIN, an ambitious initiative dedicated to the integration of European Reference Networks (ERNs) into national healthcare systems.
These highly specialised multinational networks operate across Europe on specific rare diseases, to ensure access to excellent care for patients.
CHARACTERISTICS OF THE JA JARDIN
With a total funding of EUR 18.75 million over three years, JARDIN aims to consolidate the work of ERNs in national healthcare systems, ensuring better accessibility and long-term sustainability. By creating personalised pathways for patients, developing national reference networks and facilitating access for those who are still undiagnosed, the JA is set to revolutionise treatment for rare diseases in Europe.
The expected results include recommendations, projects and reports that will guide the definition of better national strategies for the management of rare diseases. JARDIN is therefore a key pillar for the future development of ERNs and for advancing the fight against rare diseases in Europe.
